CONCERT I - SEASON’S OPENING CONCERT - SYMPHONIC SELECTIONS

Praised by The New Yorker as “superb,” and for “rich and romantic with crisp incisive technique” by The Strad, cellist Soo Bae
was recognized in September 2006 by her home country of Canada as the top young cellist in the nation when she garnered First Prize in the Canada
Council of the Arts Instrument Bank competition, resulting in a three-year loan of the ca. 1696 Bonjour Stradivari cello. This reaffirms her status
among the premiere cellists of her generation, following top prizes awarded to her in July 2006 at the 6th Adam International Cello Festival &
Competition in Christchurch, New Zealand and in March 2005 at the Concert Artists Guild International Competition.
Ms. Bae begins the 2007-08 season as featured soloist with the Asian Youth Orchestra for its 2007 Asia Tour of Japan, Hong Kong,and China
performing Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations under the baton of Okku Kamu. North American orchestral highlights in 07-08 include the
New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestra, Scottsdale Symphony, Wartburg Symphony (IA), Ohio Valley Symphony, Toronto’s Korean Canadian Youth
Symphony, the National Arts Center Orchestra of Canada and the Christchurch Symphony in New Zealand. An avid chamber musician, she has
participated in collaborative tours of both Europe and Asia and has appeared at numerous music festivals. she also tours regularly with the
“Music from Marlboro” throughout the US. Born in Seoul, Korea, Soo Bae received her Bachelor of Music in 2001 from The Curtis
Institute of Music and her Masters of Music degree and then the prestigious Artist Diploma from The Juilliard School where she serves as an
assistant faculty under Joel Krosnick.

Violinist Anton Polezhayev won “Grand Prix&rduqo; at the International Violin Competition of Pierre Lantier in Paris, France, 1997,
as well as numerous other competitions, awards and scholarships. Mr. Polezhayev was a member of the New York Philharmonic from 2002 to 2004,
and prior to the Philharmonic, a member of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra from 2000 to 2002. In addition to his recital and teaching schedule,
Anton Polezhayev currently holds the position of Associate Concertmaster with Orchestra Sinfonica do Estado de Sao Paulo, Brazil.
As a soloist and recitalist Mr. Polezhayev was featured on the cover of Part 2 of Newsday on October 21, 1992, and the New York Times on January 18, 2004,
and has performed on radio and television. His credits also include performances at the International Concert Series at Hofstra University,
Tilles Center, Alice Tully Hall in New York City, and numerous concert halls in Europe and Russia. Mr. Polezhayev was educated at the Manhattan
School of Music where he studied with Dr. Albert Markov (1993-1999) and Principal Associate Concertmaster of New York Philharmonic Ms.
Sheryl Staples (1999-2001). Mr. Polezhayev was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1976, and at age 5 began his violin studies at the Central
Music School of Moscow State Conservatory. Mr. Polexhayev was re-appointed as the Artist-in-Residence with the North Shore Symphony Orchestra
for the 2009-2010 season which will continue to involve him as a featured soloist as well as concertmaster. He will also give master classes as
part of NSSO’s Educational Outreach Program as part of a Legislative Grant awarded to the the North Shore Symphony Orchestra.
