THE 2011 NSSO YOUNG ARTISTS AWARD COMPETITION
The NSSO Young Artists Award Competition, sponsored by the North Shore Symphony Orchestra, is held every two years and is open to Nassau and Suffolk high school students who are in either the 11th or 12th grade. Established in 1993 by NSSO Music Director and Conductor Susan Deaver, the competition provides talented young musicians from Long Island the opportunity to be a featured soloist with the North Shore Symphony Orchestra.
The 2011 Young Artists Award Competition auditions were held on Sunday, March 13, by application and appointment only at JFK High School in Plainview, New York.

Elizabeth Oh, pianist - 1st Place Winner of the 2011 NSSO Young Artists Award Competition

Pianist Elizabeth Oh, a senior at Plainview Old-Bethpage High School is a scholarship recipient at the Manhattan School of Music Pre-college Program and has performed widely with chamber groups and as a solo performer.
Ms. Oh attended the C.W. Post Chamber Music Festival from 2007-2009, and won third place in the concerto competition in 2009. She has participated in North Shore Symphony Orchestra as a violinist and also participates as a pianist in the Korean American Youth Orchestra. As well as actively performing within orchestras and chamber groups, Elizabeth has also played in Zankel Hall at Carnegie in 2007, benefiting the children of Cambodia. In 2008, she performed in several benefit concerts at Weill Recital Hall, and also hosted her own benefit concert for those in Myanmar who had been devastated from a cyclone that summer.
David Davani, clarinet - 2nd Place Winner of the 2011 NSSO Young Artists Award Competition

David Davani is a Junior at North Shore High School and an Honors Program student at Mannes College of Music’s Preparatory division studying with Mr. David Sapadin. David is also privately coached and mentored by Mrs. Naomi Drucker.
This year David won the Concerto Competition at Mannes, he also placed 2nd in Friday Woodmere Classical Music Club Competition, and performed in the winner’s recital for a Concert Festival at Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall. Last year he was a finalist of both Long Island Philharmonic and U.S. Army Band Metropolitan Area Young Artist Competition performing with the band at Avery Fisher Hall.
