Audition for the NSSO

The North Shore Symphony Orchestra, Long Island’s most established community orchestra, has openings in all string sections, as well as limited openings for woodwinds, brass, and percussion.

We rehearse weekly on Thursday evenings from 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM at the Huntington High School in Huntington, NY. Each season, the NSSO presents a dynamic series of five concerts, featuring masterworks ranging from standard overtures and concertos to major symphonic repertoire like Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 and Holst's The Planets.

Audition Requirements

Auditions for new orchestral members and substitutes are held on an as-needed basis. All auditions must be scheduled in advance. Please prepare:

  • Two short, contrasting excerpts from a solo or concerto of your choice OR

  • Two to three contrasting standard orchestral excerpts.
